CGI Door Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide
CGI door installation in Miami typically runs $1,850 to $4,600 installed, and we stock most common CGI-compatible door components on our trucks to keep the job to a single visit. Most owners call us after a door stops latching flush, starts binding at the jamb, or shows daylight around the weatherstripping, and that’s usually not the door panel itself. It’s the installation components around it: hinges that have sagged under the weight of a heavy impact-rated slab, a sill that has shifted, or a threshold that is no longer sealing against Miami’s wind-driven rain. Owen Satterfield has been dealing with exactly these failures since 2009, and the fix is rarely a full door swap.
Here is what you need to know before you spend a dollar.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
The installation kit for a CGI door is not one-size-fits-all, and this is where we see Miami homeowners get burned. CGI builds two main families you are likely to have. The Estate Collection runs on a multi-point locking system and typically uses a 4-5/8″ jamb depth, while the Tropic and Sentry lines are more often on a 4-9/16″ jamb. Mix those components up and the door will never close the way it should. We also regularly handle installs for older CGI models no longer in production, which is where matching gets trickier because CGI changed hinge patterns on some series in the mid-2010s.
To identify what you have, look at the hinge edge of the door slab. CGI stamps the series code there on most units built after 2005. If that stamp is gone, we measure the hinge setback and the door thickness on site. For replacement components, we recommend OEM parts where the door is still under warranty, because an aftermarket hinge in the wrong finish or thickness can void the warranty on a Miami home. For out-of-production doors, we have had good results sourcing through CGI’s discontinued parts channel, and we only use aftermarket equivalents when the OEM part is simply not available. We also stock installation components for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors, since many Miami homes have more than one impact-rated brand on the property.
Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing
- The door rubs the top corner of the jamb on the latch side. The top hinge plate has likely worked loose or the screws have stripped out in the jamb. On a CGI door, that is a 90-plus pound slab, and gravity works on it every single day.
- The deadbolt no longer lines up without lifting the handle. The door has settled across the full height of the hinge side. This is almost always worn hinge pins or a jamb that has moved, not a bad lock.
- Daylight visible at the threshold with the door shut. Your threshold or door sweep has lost its seal, and in Miami that means wind-driven rain and humidity get inside. It also means the impact rating of the door is compromised at the bottom.
- The door is hard to push open or closed. Miami’s swings between wet and dry season make wood jambs and even some composite materials move. When a jamb twists, a properly installed door becomes a jammed door.
- The multi-point lock only throws on one or two points. The lock rods have drifted out of alignment, usually because the door slab itself shifted on its hinges. Re-aligning the rods without fixing the hinge issue means the problem comes back in three months.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is the honest math for Miami, based on what we do every week.
| Job | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Hinge replacement (three hinges, OEM or matched equivalent) | $220 – $480 |
| Threshold and door sweep replacement | $180 – $390 |
| Full jamb re-installation (includes re-shimming, new fasteners, weatherstripping) | $650 – $1,200 |
| Complete CGI door installation (new door, components, labor, haul-away) | $1,850 – $4,600 |
Your price depends on which CGI series you have, whether the jamb itself is still solid, and whether the original install used proper structural fasteners. Miami building code has specific requirements for impact-rated door anchoring, and we never shortcut them. Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts, so there is no “the jamb was worse than we thought” surprise on install day. The Kingswell Guarantee puts that in writing, and if the installation fails within the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here is the honest split. You can safely diagnose the problem yourself: check for daylight at the threshold, lift the handle and see if the door moves, and look at the hinge screws to see if they are pulling out. That fifteen minutes of inspection will tell you a lot and it will help you get an accurate quote. What we do not recommend is taking a CGI door off its hinges as a weekend project. That slab weighs north of 90 pounds, and once it is off, realigning a multi-point lock and an impact-rated threshold is not a YouTube job. We have fixed more than one DIY attempt where the door went back on crooked and the lock rods bent.
Tell me what you’re dealing with, and I’ll tell you straight what it’ll take to fix it.
FAQs
In Miami’s salt air and humidity, hinges typically last 10 to 15 years and thresholds 5 to 8 years before they need attention, depending on sun exposure and how close the home is to the coast. Call (850) 753-2730 and we will give you an honest read on your door’s condition.
Yes, we repair jamb alignment, hinge sag, lock rod drift, and threshold sealing regularly, and in roughly 70% of cases a full new door is not needed. The repair path depends on the condition of the jamb and the door slab, and we will tell you straight which one is the better use of your money. Call (850) 753-2730 for a free estimate.
Most hinge, threshold, and jamb realignment jobs are done in one visit, typically 2 to 4 hours depending on what we find. A complete new door installation is usually a half-day to a full day, and we protect the opening the entire time. Call (850) 753-2730 to schedule.
Our trucks carry common CGI-compatible hinges, thresholds, sweeps, and lock rod components specific to Miami’s impact-rated door market, so many repairs are same-visit. If your series needs a piece we do not have on hand, we order it directly and give you a written timeline before we schedule the work.
If your CGI door is sagging, sticking, or leaking at the threshold, call (850) 753-2730 and we will talk through what you are seeing. You will get a written price before any work starts, and if we install it, we stand behind it in writing.
