CGI Sliding & Patio Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CGI-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Miami, with most roller, track, and lock replacements running $180 to $640 installed depending on the part and your door’s series. If you call before noon on a weekday, we can usually get a technician out the same day to diagnose what’s actually wrong. Most people discover the problem the hard way: the door drags against the track for weeks, then one morning it won’t budge at all, or the handle turns without catching. By then the rollers have chewed into the track and the easy fix became a bigger one.
Here’s the thing about CGI doors in South Florida: they’re built for impact, but salt air and humidity work on the moving parts year-round, not just during storms. Owen Satterfield and our crew have been replacing CGI door hardware in this climate long enough to know which parts fail first and why.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s sliding and patio door lines include the Estate Collection, Estate Series 3000, Estate Series 7000, and the CGI Commercial/Architectural lines, mostly built around their Sentinel impact-rated glass packages. The compatibility gotcha most Miami owners hit is this: CGI’s roller assemblies are not universal across series. A roller that fits the Series 3000 will often not seat correctly in a Series 7000 track, even when the door sizes look identical on paper.
The fastest way to identify your part is to check the sticker on the door’s edge or the top rail. CGI etches a manufacturing code and date on the glass spacer of most units, and that code ties directly to the hardware spec. If the sticker’s gone (sun and humidity love eating label adhesive), we match by measuring the roller’s outer diameter, the stile width, and the track profile. On CGI, we default to OEM hardware when the door carries a remaining warranty, and to quality aftermarket equivalents only when the warranty’s expired and the OEM part cost doesn’t make sense against the door’s remaining life.
Signs Your CGI Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing
- The door drags or sticks at one point in the track. Usually a flattened roller or debris build-up in the track channel. Miami’s fine sand works its way into the rollers and acts like sandpaper on the nylon wheels.
- The handle turns but the latch doesn’t catch. The mortise lock’s drive gear, a known wear point on CGI units that see heavy use, strips or the latch hook bends. This is a security problem as much as a convenience one, since the door won’t actually lock.
- The door lifts when you pull it, or it doesn’t sit flush. Roller assemblies fail unevenly, so one side drops. Running the door on a collapsed roller scores the track, and that turns a $220 roller job into a $500-plus track replacement.
- Condensation or haze between the glass panes. That’s seal failure in the insulated glass unit. The hardware’s fine, but the door itself has lost its insulating and impact-rated integrity.
- You hear grinding or feel vibration when you slide the door. The rollers are disintegrating. What you’re hearing is a nylon wheel running on its metal post, chewing the track with every pass.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Miami, here’s what we typically see for CGI sliding and patio door parts installed:
- Roller replacement (both panels): $180 – $320 installed, including OEM or matched aftermarket rollers, track cleaning, and alignment.
- Mortise lock or latch replacement: $150 – $280 installed, including the new lock body and re-keying if needed.
- Track repair or replacement: $240 – $520 installed, depending on track length and whether the sill needs re-bedding.
- Full hardware refresh (rollers, lock, handle, track adjustment): $380 – $640 installed.
Every one of those prices is a written price, handed to you before any work starts. We don’t revise at the door. Parts and labor are separated on the quote so you can see exactly what you’re paying for, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the door drags again within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Westlight Windows & Doors is an independent service provider; we’re not affiliated with CGI, but we install their hardware every week and we stand behind the work we do on it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can clear the track with a vacuum and check whether the rollers are visibly worn without risking much. But here’s the honest part: swapping rollers on a CGI impact door means lifting a door that can weigh 200 to 300 pounds, and the rollers are under spring tension inside the stile. If you pry the wrong way, the panel can drop and the frame can rack. We’ve also seen well-meaning DIYers strip the roller adjustment screws because CGI recesses them deep in the hard-to-reach corners. For the weight, the tension, and the alignment you need to actually get the door sliding right again, this is one we recommend leaving to someone who does it every week. Tell me what you’re dealing with, and I’ll tell you straight what it’ll take to fix it. Call (850) 753-2730 and we’ll walk through it.
FAQs
Rollers on CGI doors in South Florida typically last 7 to 12 years, but the salt air in coastal neighborhoods like Brickell and Key Biscayne can cut that to 5 to 8, especially on lower-floor units. Locks and handles usually outlast two sets of rollers. If your door is more than eight years old and the movement’s getting rough, the rollers are likely near the end. Call (850) 753-2730 and we’ll give you a free assessment.
Most failed CGI door parts can’t realistically be repaired because the wear points (roller wheels, lock gears, track channels) are engineered as replacement components, not serviceable ones. The exception is track alignment, which can sometimes be corrected without replacing the track. We’ll always tell you if a repair makes sense before recommending replacement.
A standard roller or lock replacement on a CGI door takes 45 to 90 minutes once the door’s open and the panel’s unloaded. Track replacement runs longer, usually 2 to 3 hours, because the old track has to come out cleanly and the new one has to be bedded and leveled. We’ll give you a real time window in writing before we start.
We keep common CGI roller assemblies, mortise locks, and handles on our service trucks for the Estate Series lines, and we can source series-specific or commercial-line parts quickly from our supplier network. If it’s not on the truck that morning, we’ll tell you when it’s arriving, give you a written price, and schedule the job for the day we can complete it in one visit.
If your CGI slider’s dragging, sticking, or not locking, call (850) 753-2730 and we’ll get a technician out to look at it. You’ll get a written price before the work starts, and if it’s not done right, we’ll come back at no charge. That’s the deal.
